John Obuh with his boys in training |
This might not be good news for the country
which is still basking in the euphoria of the Super Eagles African Cup of
Nations’ victory in South Africa.
The Flying Eagles coach, John Obuh was
scheduled to travel with the team to Egypt enroute Algeria where the African
Youth Championship, AYC will take place.
Our correspondent discovered at the airport
that the team left without the coach only to be seen at the NFF Glass House.
When we asked why he did not embark on the
trip with his team, he said he has some issues to settle with his employers
(NFF).
Obuh claimed that the sum of N13 million was
said to have been credited to his account but he did not come across any money
hence he decided to stay back and sort out things before embarking on the
journey to Egypt where they are expected to play some friendly matches.
A reliable
source in the NFF secretariat told our correspondent that Obuh refused to
follow the team because he wants to press for his backlog of unpaid salaries
running back as far back as 2009.Recall that the NFF board chairman of media and publicity, Emeka Inyama at a press briefing said the salaries of all coaches will be paid last week Friday.
Meanwhile, Obuh said he doesn’t mind what will be his fate for abandoning the team because he has tried and done his best for the country. He said he will have no choice than to make the matter public if his money is not paid on Tuesday. The Flying Eagles coach is on N600,000 salary per month and has not been paid 14 months salaries.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles AFCON-winning defender, Kenneth Omeruo has been dropped from a 30-man provisional squad for the AYC but four foreign-based players are part of the team.
