The FCT Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN
has congratulated the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF led by
Aminu Maigari for the victory of the Super Eagles at the just-concluded Africa Cup
of Nations, AFCON in South Africa.
Chairman of the body, Kayode Adeniyi said all SWAN members in
Abuja are full of joy for the Super Eagles and the leadership of the Nigeria
Football Federation for bouncing back from not qualifying for the last edition
to emerging champions of this edition.
“We really rejoice with the NFF board for spearheading the team
that brought back football glory to Nigeria, 19 years after winning it. We
congratulate them and the entire staff of the football house.”
SWAN also congratulates the chief coach of the Super Eagles who
created record for being the second man to win the trophy both as a player and
as a coach. The achievement of the coach has further reinforced the fact that
if local coaches are encouraged they can reproduce the same result like their
foreign counterparts.
“We congratulate Keshi and his technical team for the great feat
achieved. They have brought back pride to the Africa coach and Nigeria coach in
particular.” Kayode Adeniyi said.

The Super Eagles defeated the Stallions of Burkina-Faso by a lone
goal scored by Sunday Mba to lift the trophy for the third time for the Nation.
The team had gone into the tournament as not having the chance of lifting the
cup but their fortune changed when against all odd they defeated tournament
favorite, Cote d’Ivoire by 2-1 to qualify for the semi-final; and in the semi-final
they whitewashed the Eagles of Mali by 4-1 to book their place in the final.

The achievement of the Super Eagles was made possible by the
support of the Nigeria Football Federation which deserved commendation.
