“We know our country has a lot of challenges, like flood, which can only be solved by the right application of engineering solutions,” the new chairman said.
He noted that our inability to turn our endowed natural resources into assets over the years and the neglect of engineering professionals are the main reasons.
Akinbowale however advised government to engage in veritable economic and advantageous ventures such as construction of dams for agricultural (irrigation), hydropower purposes, amongst others.
He said the Water Engineering Division of the NSE is ready to make its knowledge and expertise available to the federal government in solving all the water-related challenges which includes lack of potable water, hydropower, irrigation, flooding, erosion, sanitation, pollution, dams monitoring, water transportation, river siltation, etc.
“These are real challenges to us as Engineers. It is my prayers that the federal government will provide the necessary environment that will allow the Nigerian Engineers proffer solutions to these unfortunate situations,” he added.
