Onolememen said the on-going road sector reforms which will lead to the
emergence of a Federal Roads Authority, FRA will empower the authority to take
over the professional management of roads infrastructure nationwide which will also
include roads design, construction, rehabilitation and maintenance.
The Minister mentioned this while
conducting the National Good Governance Tour Team led by the Minister of
Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, through the construction of an additional new
25km carriageway from Agbede and passing through Ewu, Irrua, Ekpoma to Iruekpen
in Edo State.
He said roads maintenance which
is the present duty of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), will be
under a department in the authority.
The carriageway of 7.30m width
with 2.75m outer shoulders form part of the Benin end of the dualistion of
Abuja-Lokoja-Okene-Auchi-Benin road. The dualisation of the Agbede-Ewu section
of this highway and the construction of a flyover at Ewu junction.

Onolememen said it will reduce
the fatal accidents that occur frequently there resulting in loss of lives and
properties. The contractor, Dantata and Sawoe Nigeria Limited has since the
flag-off on the14th February, 2013 mobilized fully to site and commenced earth
works.
Arc. Mike Onolememen at the
inspection promised Nigerians that the delivery of the road in April 2016 will
be a reality especially with the availability of funds from the Subsidy
Reinvestment Programme (SURE-P).
The Minister of Information, Mr.
Labaran Maku, thanked the Federal Ministry of Works for its commitment to the
provision of good motorable roads and assured Nigerians that this
administration will stop at nothing to ensure that the road sector reforms is
successful as it is designed for positive results.
