Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama failed
to go naked as promised, after winning the 2013 African Cup of Nations, AFCON
in South Africa.
When our correspondent approached him at the Abuja International Airport on
arrival from the just-concluded 2013 AFCON in South Africa, to know why he did
not keep to his promise, Enyeama denied ever making such comment.
According to him, “I never said such a thing,
I don’t know where such story emanated from,” he claimed.
Enyeama seems to be speaking from both sides of
his mouth as it was widely reported in both the local and international media before the Africa Cup of
Nations kicked off in South Africa that, “Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent
Enyeama, has vowed that if Nigeria wins the tournament, he will go naked.”

He was quoted as saying, “It will be a dream
come true and I am certain I will strip to my shorts. Yes, let everyone hear it
that I will strip to my shorts if we are champions.”
The Maccabi Tel Aviv who is on loan from Ligue
1 side Lille, did not go naked as promised, instead, he attempted lifting the centre
referee after the final whistle.
A journalist who spoke on anonymity told our correspondent that he was one of the people Enyeama spoke with, he said Enyeama must have made the comment because he thought it will be impossible for them (Super Eagles) to win the AFCON trophy.
Enyeama was in post throughout the tournament after
Stephen Keshi’s first choice, Austine Ejide picked up a thigh injury.
