Development Control Department carrying out demolition exercise |
In continuation of the clean up exercise in the Federal Capital
Territory, FCT, the Department of Development Control removed Illegal structures
and shanties in Apo Mechanic Village, Guzape.
Spokesperson of the Development Control, Mrs. Josie Mudasiru said the shanties
were removed because the plot on which the shanties have been built belongs to
a legal allottee that is ready to develop the plot.
Mrs. Mudasiru also said that the fences erected by the allottees at the
Mechanic Village default the prototype given to them which shows the ground
floor be used as mechanic workshop while the top floor be used as residential.
At Guzape, shanties erected within and around uncompleted and abandoned
structures were also removed.
District Officer in charge of the area, TPL Jafaru Hamidu said the
shanties constitute a security risk to the area.
Town Planner Hamidu said that the Department has decided to write to the
owners of the abandoned buildings to complete them so they will not serve as
hideout for hoodlums and failure to do so, the Department may be forced to
remove such structures.
Meanwhile, the Development Control has so far removed about 100 shanties,
illegal fences and a brothel at the Apo Mechanic Village.
The site Officer TPL Samson Atureta said the exercise became imperative
by the way the Apo mechanic village is been bastardized by the allotees despite
the prototype given them.
