Nigeria dominates CAF XI team

The Super Eagles of Nigeria dominate the Confederation of African Football, CAF XI team for the first time in the history of the continent’s football tournament with five of its players.

Stand-in captain in the 2013 African Cup of Nation, AFCON Vincent Enyeama led the team as the first choice goalkeeper. 


Other Nigerian players in the team are Efe Ambrose, John Obi Mikel, Victor Moses and Emmanuel Emenike.

Meanwhile, Ghanaian striker and Al Ain striker, Asamoah Gyan was also picked alongside others. He is the only Ghanaian player on the list of 11 even the former Sunderland of England striker failed to replicate his rich scoring form at club level where he netted 22 goals in the United Arab Emirates Etisalat League for the first half of the season.
John Mikel Obi
He was picked by CAF’s Technical Study Group to strike upfront with Nigeria’s Emmanuel Emenike who was joint top scorer with Mubarak Waso with four goals.The other players in the team include Burkina Faso central defender Bakary Kone, Cape Verde skipper Fernando Neves. Rennes and Burkina Faso winger Jonathan Pitroipa who named the MVP of the 2013 AFCON.
Victor Moses
Mali captain Seydou Keita and Siaka Tiene of the Ivory Coast complete the list.
The CAF XI are: Vincent Enyeama, Bakary Koné, Nando Maria Neves, Efe Ambrose, Jonathan Pitroipa, Siaka Tiéné, Seydou Keita, John Obi Mikel, Victor Moses, Asamoah Gyan, Emmanuel Emenike.
