It was a sweet victory for Wazobia Football
Club of Lugbe as they scale through to the quarter-final of this year’s Federal
Capital Territory, FCT Football Association, FA Cup.
The Aregbe boys as they are widely
known defeated Alpha Football Club by 2-1 to get to this stage of the
competition. The two goals were by Wale Soneye.
Wale scored the first goal in the
15th minute of play from a through pass from Farouk Musa, Alpha got
the equalizer in the 65th minute before Wale converted a penalty in
the 75th after Uche Henry was brought down in the 18 yard box.
Chief coach of the team, Eze Paul popularly
known as Lagerback said he will take every match as they come. His words, “Every
match will determine how we will play. We respect every team in the competition
but we are not afraid of any of them.
“Our next opponent, FC Abuja is a
big name in the football circle in FCT but definitely we are not afraid of
them. The match will be determined on the field of play and I believe my boys and
the technical crew have all what it takes to give them a good match,” he
concluded.
Wazobia, a Nationwide League One
side will face Football Club, FC of Abuja, a Nigerian National League, NNL clubside
owned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC in the
quarter-final stage.
Recalled that Wazobia defeated Optimum
Football Club of Kubwa in the round of 32; the Aregbe boys were losing by 0-2
before they fought back to level the game by 2-2. In the penalty shoot out,
Wazobia goalkeeper, James saved two of the penalty to give his team the game. The
game ended 4-2.
In a related development, the National
Youth Service Corps, NYSC eliminated the Nigerian Police team, Police Machine
from this year’s Federal Capital Territory, FCT Football Association, FA Cup.
The highly contested match saw the
game ended in 1-1 draw in regulation time. The goalkeepers of both teams were
busy throughout the match as they made great saves from the strikers of both
teams.
In the penalty shoot-out, the NYSC
goalkeeper saved the first penalty while one of his players lost his to level
the shoot-out. However, Police Machine player later played the ball wide to
give the NYSC the win.
The penalty shoot-out ended 4-3 in
favour of the NYSC team.
