The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, has ordered the deployment of 40,000 personnel for the Easter celebration across the nation.
He directed the Zonal Commanders and State Commandants to ensure efficient deployment of their personnel to all nooks and crannies for effective policing of lives and property against any form of attack.
Gana while felicitating with the Christian faithfuls, urged them to live exemplary life preached by Christ, who sacrifice himself for the sins of all and sundry.
He reiterated that fasting period as observed by Christians before the Easter, is a time meant for atonement of sin, alms-giving, reconciliation, tolerance and making peace with one another in ensuring lasting peace and harmony in the society.
Gana further said, Easter festivity should not be seen as a time of merriment and fun fare alone but should be seen as a time of tolerating one another irrespective of the religious differences.
However, apart from the deployment of personnel, sniffer dogs, specialised units, such as CBRN, Special Force, Counter Terrorism, Ambulances, Surveillance team are to be deployed to strategic areas. He also charged the personnel to ensure the protection of Critical Infrastructure within their localities against vandals and enemies of the nation.
He urged personnel to work in synergy with other sister agencies as the Corps will not tolerate any form of sabotage and crisis between the Corps personnel and other sister agencies over issues that could be avoided.
He therefore warned personnel against any act of confrontation with personnel of other sister agencies and rather urged them to always remember the Corps principle of no compromise while discharging their duties. “Avoid the use of force and coercive language on the populace whom you are to protect, any officer or Command found wanting or deviate will be sanction appropriately.”
The NSCDC further stressed that partnership and collaboration is very pertinent as all agencies are working towards a single goal of protecting the society against insecurity.
He however advised parents to warn their wards to desist from any act that is inimical to the society, especially as vandals and saboteurs capitalised on festive periods to carry out their nefarious act.
“The law therefore is no respecter of anyone. Therefore, anyone caught, the long arm of the law will takes it course in line with the law of the federation hence, vandals, illegal oil bunkerers, oil thieves and operatives of illegal Private Guards Company should desist or relocate to another country as there is no hidden place for them,” he warned.
