Rivers Angel in action |
Nigeria Women Football
league (NWFL) Champions, Rivers Angels will tackle their South-East opponent,
Abia Angels in a matchday 4 fixture in Umuahia on Thursday.
The
reigning league champions have recorded a win and a draw from the two matches
they’ve played this season.
Their first game was
on the road to Ibom Angels where an Alice Ogebe’s 1st half goal was able to
earn them a point in Uyo while Cynthia Aku’s brace and Chinaza Uchendu’s spot
kick secured a comfortable home win for the side on Match Day 2 against FC
Robo.
The Edwin Okon-side is
now poised on picking their first away win as they face off with Abia Angels
who will be hoping to bounce back from a disappointing 4-0 loss to Bayelsa
Queens on match day 3 in Nembe.
Despite securing a win
last week, Technical Adviser of the Jewel of Rivers, Edwin Okon, insists his
side still needs improvement.
With eleven
players recruited to beef up the team this season, the former Super
Falcons gaffer says that his team is a work in progress.
The Port Harcourt side
lost 2-1 to Abia Angels in a pre-season friendly last month but Edwin Okon says
the NWFL match day 4 encounter will be a different ball game.
“This is a different
ball game altogether, once beaten twice shy,” he said.
“We played in Aba then
but the real game will be in Umuahia, so the day will determine who wins the
game.
“Meanwhile, there’s
need for the technical department to work on the various parts of the squad,”
Okon summed up.
Both
teams will be meeting for the first time since the hosts gained promotion back to
the NWFL in 2015.
