Another edition of Chika Chukwumerije Sports Foundation, CCSF Taekwondo competition known as Prix Series 2 has been scheduled to take place between June 9 and 10, 2017.
Disclosing this in Abuja, CCSF Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Chika Chukwumerije explained that the June version of the competition mainly for grassroots-based Taekwondo Athletes will be open for Kiddies, Cadets, Juniors and Adult categories.
Prix series tournament, the first of its kind in Nigeria was launched by CCSF in March inside Old Parade ground in Abuja, where upcoming Athletes hit the battle ground after barely 120 contestants within the Nation’s capital and beyond participated during the two-day sporting event which attracted individuals from states, clubs and institutions .
The competition was staged after World Taekwondo Federation, NTF sanctioned trainers/officials led by Mrs Elizabeth Binga engaged Referees in an intensive training sessions.
Team CCSF from FCT however won the adult category of the maiden edition of the CCSF Prix Series after gaining eight medals comprising of three gold, four silver and one bronze, Lagos based club, Q-Madi came in second position with two gold medals, A.B.U Zaria was placed in third position with a solitary gold medal. In the Kiddies section, Brickhall team won after topping the medals table with three gold, four silver and 1 bronze; followed by Korean Cultural Centre Taekwondo and Eagle Taekwondo which tied for second place at five medals apiece comprising of two gold, two silver and one bronze.
Chukwumerije who has remained the brain behind most Taekwondo tournaments witnessed in recent times in the country said plans are on top gear to expand the prix series to accommodate more Athletes beyond the shawls of Nigeria.
He added; “Our utmost desire is to give upcoming Athletes a platform to showcase what they have got to offer. Don’t’ forget, the prix series remains a grassroots sporting event.
“This edition is open to all interested Taekwondo Athletes from all over Nigeria. They are expected to register online through www.ccsf.com.ng.   We will consider accommodating Athletes from other countries if they also register online from wherever they are,” he noted.
Basically, two fighting style, Poomsae and Kyreougi will be used throughout the event which could be extended to three days.
It would be recalled that CCSF has been in the vanguard of organizing series of competitions almost every quarter since 2010. The introduction of prix series in 2017 has no doubt increased more chances of Athletes competing amongst themselves ahead of international Taekwondo open slated for October.
