Sadiq Shuaibu 54th minute strike
earned Gombe United FC a 1-0 win over Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries
Football Club in one of Match Day 15 fixtures of the Nigeria Professional
Football League (NPFL) played at the Pantami Stadium on Sunday in Gombe.
MFM FC began the encounter on a high
with good passage of the ball as they dominated the game. The visitors almost
got the opener after 10 minutes as Olatunbosun Sikiru pass couldn't get to
Onuwa Chukwuka who was well positioned few meters away from the homers box.
10 minutes later, Gombe United had a
chance to break the deadlock but Idris Bakare overhead kick went off target. Bakare
had another goal opportunity in the 22nd minute when his effort at goal went
off target.

The hosts were awarded a spot kick
in the 32nd minute after an infringement on Manir Ubale. Austine Oladapo
stepped forward, he sent MFM FC goalkeeper, Folarin Abayomi the wrong way but
his effort went a bit wide. First half ended goalless for both teams.
MFM FC won the first free kick of
the second half after two minutes of play as Maurice Chigozie fouled Odey over
the edge of the visitors box. Gombe United stalwarts defended Okorom Stanley's
well taken free kick.
The Savannah Scorpions finally broke
the gridlock in the 54th minute of the game courtesy of a strike from Sadiq who
turned home a long throw-in from Idris Bakare.
Shortly after the opening goal, MFM
FC combined well as Onuwa and Tchato Giscard asserted their authorities in the
middle of the park with Odey and Olatunbosun tormenting the hosts defense.
The Lagos-based mounted pressure on
the home team on many occasions but the hosts were resolute with their
defending. Odey tried a long shot in the 79th minute of the proceedings but his
audacious effort went off target. The game ended in a 1-0 triumph for Gombe
United.
MFM FC are now sitting on the second
spot in the NPFL table with 27 points from 15 league matches.
