FCT minister, director are incompetent – SWAN

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, FCT chapter has expressed fears over the possibility of the Sports Administrators in the FCT to effectively and efficiently organise the National Youth Sports Festival.
FCT minister, Bala Mohammed

FCT SWAN notes that with the obvious nonchalant attitude of the senator Bala Mohammed- led administration towards Sports in the Territory, hosting such a big event, (which calls for high level of sport administrative acumen) could bring shame to the Nation as whole.
To this end, SWAN requests President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR who has demonstrated his love and commitment to sports development in the country, to withdraw the hosting rights from the Federal Capital Territory so as to save the Nation of the pending disgrace.
SWAN observes with regret that with just one month to the commencement of the Games, there are no activities to show that FCT would be hosting such an event.
FCT SWAN further laments the non-existence of sports facilities in the Territory, with the so called Area 10 Sports Center which has been under construction for the last 15 years and have become the haven of unscrupulous elements.
It so pathetic that the refusal of Senator Bala Mohammed to prevail on the Secretary of the Social development, Blessing Onuh and the Director of Sports, Mohammed Alim Musa to set up standing sports associations which is a catalyst to genuine sports development and the deliberate refusal to pay players of the FCT Queens their eighteen months salary, is a strong testimony to the fact that the FCT minister does not mean well for the youths of the Territory.
It is a sad tale of one woe to the other in the FCT as there are no hostel facilities for athletes, among others, which are further evidences that the FCT administrators are not working in line with the transformation agenda of President Jonathan, and are therefore not ready to host a befitting championship.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) had last month stated that it was expecting a total of 11,500 students to participate in the Games, but SWAN fears that this might mean more pressure will be put on the already inadequate sports facilities in the FCT, while visiting students might be made to go through untold hardship as there are no hotel facilities currently in the FCT that can accommodate such number of participants.
SWAN insists that President Goodluck Jonathan will be saving the Nation a big embarrassment by withdrawing the hosting right of the Games from FCT.
