A pedestrian in Abuja |
Chairman of Globacom Communications
Plc, Chief Mike Adenuga has been identified as one of the persons’
responsibility for the delay of the ongoing Abuja pedestrian bridge.
A source in the Ministry of Works
reliably told our correspondent that the business mogul
stopped the pedestrian bridge in front of his house in Maitama because of
security reasons.
According to our source, Adenuga
claimed that the bridge is too close to his house and criminals could
capitalize on that to see what is going on in his compound.
He also claimed that snipers could
stand on top of the bridge especially at night to get anybody in his compound
hence he stopped the project.

When our correspondent visited
the spot, we discovered that the pedestrian which is supposed to be nearing
completion is still at the preliminary stage and has been moved from its
initial spot to a farther distance from his house.
Although, our source did not
disclose whether he is going to pay for the relocation but feelers have it that
he is footing the bill for the relocation.
When we visited the Road Sector
Development Team, RSDT of the Ministry of Works, the organization that awarded
and supervising the project, the Unit Manager, Engr. Ishaq Mohammed though did
not mention name but disclosed that a bridge was moved from its initial
position to another spot for security reason.
His words, “What is really is some
of them we have issues that have to do with locations, some people complained
that the bridges are close to their properties and for security reasons, we
have to move them.”
Meanwhile, a drive round the town
shows that most of the bridges are nearing completion. The RSDT boss said as
soon as any bridge is completed, it would be opened to the public for use in
order to reduce the casualty on the road especially for passers-by.
