Nigeria plays Kenya March 23 in Calabar


The Super Eagles of Nigeria will play Harambee Stars of Kenya next month, March 23 at the U.J. Usuene stadium, Calabar, Cross River state in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

This was disclosed by the chairman of the media and publicity committee, Chief Emeka Inyama at Nigeria Football Federation, NFF secretariat, Abuja yesterday.
Inyama said having won the Africa Cup of Nations; their target has shifted to the upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
He claimed that as they were in South Africa, they retained focus on the World Cup qualifiers. “Our next match in the qualifying series comes up on Saturday 23 against Kenya at the U.J. Esuene stadium, Calabar.”
The NFF media and publicity committee chairman also disclosed that the camping for the home boys will start a few weeks before the foreign-based professionals arrive. “The NFF will put all arrangements in place for this, and for the other World Cup qualifiers away to Kenya and Namibia in June, at home to Malawi in September and the for the two-leg knock-out in October and November, 2013.”

He also said they are keeping their eyes on the FIFA Confederation Cup tournament coming up in Brazil in June. He revealed that it is the second time that the country will be participating in the tournament.
Inyama noted, “At the first outing in Saudi Arabia in 1995 (when it was still known as Intercontinental Tournament for King Fahd Cup), the Super Eagles finished 4th.
“Our commitment is to ensure that in Brazil in June, the African champions are fully prepared to overpower the likes of Spain, Uruguay and Tahiti in the group stage and Brazil, Italy, Mexico and Japan, who are in the other group.
