Works ministry stops patronage of private sector

The ministry of Works has commissioned a Road and Bridge Design office to stop the patronage of private sectors and save the country of about N500 million yearly.
Road construction work
This hint was given by the minister of Works, Arc Mike Onolememen, while commissioning the newly-established Federal Highway Design office with modern equipment at Works headquarters.
Onolememen said there is need to be self-sufficient on road and bridge design. “When I came in as the minister; I deemed it necessary to ensure that a full-fledged road and bridge design office is established.”
He disclosed that before the establishment of the office, engineers of the Ministry had gone on training in various institutions abroad and are already posted to the Design office in order to demonstrate their level of competency in the field.
Earlier, the director of Highways (Roads), Engr. Josephine Nnoruka, claimed that the Design office had never existed in the history of the Federal Ministry of Works.
She further disclosed that the ministry can now design various road projects internally which is another expression of the agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration in transforming the road sector in the country.
